Where is Waywords?

25 August 2024

You gotta wonder . . .

In the last newsletter, I talked a bit about the challenges of work process, balancing content creation and business management, and the like. Equally important (and even more so) is communication with all of you, my subscribers and members!

So here is an update on Waywords and the re-energizing of that communication. I am grateful for your patience and support as I slow launch this enormous program.

Here's what's going on and what's just ahead.

A New Newsletter?

Yes, the previous newsletter was on a platform called Mailchimp which is owned by financial company Intuit. Recently, they made it clear that they opposed labor unions, causing the layoff of many employees and canceling podcasts from Pineapple Studios, in particular impacting the Writers Guild of America East. And while that dispute between WGAE and Audacy (the Intuit partner) was (mostly) resolved this summer (by absenting the Mailchimp partnership), I am unwilling to support Intuit's continuing position. (And yes, I've let both companies know, one of many who have left.)

So this Labor Day, I am moving to an independent company called Kit (formerly ConvertKit). It's a company created by people like me for this sort of content production. I'm happy to be here for the foreseeable future! (And patience while I learn its ins and outs!)

Moving forward, expect my newsletter updates starting Sept 1 and then once every two weeks save for special announcements.

Last Straw

“It’s like you said. That’s just marketing. Just story. I can drink this Sholi. That’s all right. But I know it doesn’t change anything.”

But the Big News: Unwoven

Much of spring and summer 2024 have been spent with the publications of my first book, Unwoven: Poetry of Form and Release, to be released soon this September!

In it you'll find dozens of original poems across 17 traditional forms of verse. One will be written in the traditional form (villanelle, sonnet, tanka, etc.) followed by the same subject in free verse. The question arises: what is the meaningful impact of structure on poetry? Here, uniquely, we find one writer's answers.

Topics revolve around aging, lost relationships, failing memory, education, and the limits of language.

I am proud and excited to work offer this book in print, eBook, and audiobook (released soon after). In addition, you'd expect to see supplements of educational use around this, and I will have nearly 100 pages of them along with audio and video support. And a Teacher Guide and online course are not far down the line!

Beneath the weed, here–in this space–
I am silent and unforgiving.
My vows are wordless.
On what soil would we debate?
